In the 1950s a large housing complex for married mine workers was started halfway between Mitsero village and the foremen's settlement on the ridge at Ayia Varvara (SCY320). It was designed as four range of small housing units round a central courtyard; the whole complex is about 65 m square. The north and west ranges were only finished as far as their stone foundations, though on the west these reach a substantial height. Three blocks were added later in the centre, of hollow brick and corrugated asbestos roof. The southern range was still in use during the survey project for light for light industry and residence.
