The name of Episkopio (from 'I', a bishop) suggests that it became a bishopric after the decline of Roman and early Byzantine Tamassos. It lies on the east bank of the Pedhiaios river, just outside the survey area, though SCSP's transect 521.5 seems to have picked up part of the halo of material resulting from intensive cultivation and manuring in the fields closest to the village during the Medieval-Modern periods. It is mentioned in historical maps from the 16th century as 'Pischopio' or 'Piscopio'.
