SCY314 : Aredhiou Village

Grid reference: 517800/3878500
Cadastral plan: XXIX/56

The church of Panayia Odhiyitria dates to the late 15th century, and now lies on the eastern outskirts of the Aredhiou (SCY105). There are possible references to this village from the 14th century. Until 1974 this was the only mixed Greek and Turkish Cypriot village in the survey area, with the Turkish quarter on the eastern side of the river, not far from Panayia Odhiyitria, and the Greek quarter on the west side, along the Nicosia road and close to the early 20th century church of Ayios Yeoryios.
