After detailed research by the Hellenic Mining Company, underground exploitation of Kokkinopezoulas started in 1953. 900,000 tons of sulphurous ore, mostly not copper-bearing, were extracted between 1953 & 1957. Open cast mining started in 1957. From that data 5,486,035 tons were extracted, producing 1,750,000 tons of pure silver pyrites. Total depth of the mining was 100 m. The mine stopped working in 1967. There are still the remains of some structures left on the north side, along with scattered slag fragments, clearly not in situ.
